Tourettes Action Creativity Awards (TACA) 2023
Posted on 24 July 2023 by Pippa McClounan
Creativity awards exclusively for young people living with TS now open!
This year’s Tourettes Action Creativity Awards (#TACA) opens on the 24th of July. The #TACA was launched in 2022 in memory of Tourettes Action’s former CEO Suzanne Dobson. Its mission is to give talented young people of 17 and under, living with TS, an opportunity to embrace and share their creativity by submitting an original visual or performance art piece to the Tourettes Action Creativity Awards.
Everyone taking part will receive a certificate of thanks, to acknowledge their hard work, with a number of pieces being selected by a team of arts professionals to receive a prize, and to be exhibited in an online winner’s gallery from October 2023.
“We know how extremely talented and creative our TS community are, so what better way to showcase this than with our unique event. #TACA encourages participation and involvement, it will champion the artistic flair and inventiveness of the thousands of young people, across the UK, living with Tourette Syndrome. I’m incredibly proud that Tourettes Action continues to promote #TACA and give young people living with TS the opportunity to showcase their talents.” says the charity’s CEO, Emma McNally.
Throughout the summer, young people can submit their art to a dedicated #TACA website. This art could be an animation short, oil painting, instrumental performance, dance or even a stand-up comedy routine, among many other things.
Freelance illustrator Terrina Bibb, a TACA mentor says "Art is everything to me. The inspiration of my current style comes from a changing event in my life that allows me to translate my skills using an adapted method of illustration. The arts have no barriers I would urge young people with TS to get involved and to give this a go.”
If you are under 18, living with TS, or you know someone that is, then please go to www.taca.org.uk to find out more and to submit your entry.
