Inspiring fundraising
With a couple more months left until the London marathon, the sky's the limit for our incredible fundraisers, #TeamMartin
Team Martin hit the roads and their fundraising target
Well what can we say other then the last few weeks have certainly been very busy!
Our training is coming along really well with no injuries to report and both of us feeling good physically and mentally. Each week we have increased our distance by one mile with us now at 18 miles! We have run through places of Leicestershire that we would normally drive to in a car. The routes have taken us onto road running and different terrain, and hills that go on as far as the eye can see. We have been quite fortunate weather wise with perfect conditions most weeks. We have been supported continuously by our amazing family, each week Sandie’s husband Gary runs with us, despite not having a great relationship with running or a place to run the Marathon. Jane’s husband, Wayne AKA Route Manager and Sandie’s Dad Paul AKA Head Marshall join us on their bikes on hand to fall back and shout words of encouragement. It has been a very emotional roller coaster but we are enjoying every step for all of us.
We are all looking forward to the big day and are starting to think about our nutrition, having enough energy to get us through the runs and to aid our recovery each week – ‘carbs’ are our new best friend as well as gels, jelly babies and recovery shakes. We are both seeing the benefits of our ‘carb overload’ days.
We have also been very busy fundraising…
We have held a successful Quiz Night and Masquerade Ball which were really well supported by our families and friends and even strangers. With Venues and DJ’s offering their services for free. Everyone was so generous and we are so grateful to them all. With their support and generosity we have managed to hit our joint target of £3400 with possibly more to come.
We have been very fortunate with donations from organisations such as Leicester City Football Club, their donations made our raffles a great success. We have also attended a church craft group to talk through our stories of why Tourette’s Action is important to us and how to book fold; we laughed ate cakes and everyone was so generous for our time. We have been supported by Spencer’s school having a non-school uniform day and also sold crafts for Christmas along with Cakes Sales. Our hard work has paid off with our target met with us hopefully going beyond.
There is no ‘I’ in Team….#teammartin all the way!
