Meet William Hartwick
A story of resilience, courage, and inspiration
William is an award-winning author, motivational speaker, and retired teacher and principal, whose life experiences have shaped his mission to empower students, educators, and adults to embrace resilience, neurodiversity, and self-acceptance.
Diagnosed with Tourette syndrome and Bipolar Disorder at the age of 35, William spent decades navigating challenges he didn’t fully understand. As a child, he struggled with reading and writing and was labeled “functionally illiterate.” Yet, against all odds, he discovered a unique gift — the ability to express himself through rhyme and poetry.
That discovery led to his powerful book, The Invisible Backpack: A Life of Courage, a deeply personal and poetic reflection on overcoming adversity, embracing neurodiversity, and finding strength in the face of life’s struggles. A voice for those who feel unseen.
William’s story isn’t just his own — it speaks to anyone who has ever felt different, misunderstood, or unworthy. His book and motivational talks encourage people of all ages to recognize their value, rewrite the stories they’ve told themselves, and step into their full potential.
He is especially passionate about working with:
- Educators and parents, helping them create inclusive environments where neurodiverse individuals can thrive
- Students, showing them that challenges don’t define them but can instead shape their greatest strengths
- Adults, reminding them that it’s never too late to heal, grow, and embrace self-love
William’s message is simple yet profound: no one is alone in their struggles. Everyone carries an “invisible backpack” filled with experiences, challenges, and emotions — but it does not have to weigh them down.
Let’s Change Not Just Minds, But Mindsets
William’s journey proves that our greatest struggles often lead to our greatest purpose. From being a child who struggled with literacy to becoming a published author, his life is a testament to the power of resilience, self acceptance, and the courage to embrace who you truly are.
