Let's talk Tourette's!
14 year old Scarlett shares her story from diagnosis to pageantry.
Hi, I am Scarlett!
I got diagnosed with Tourette’s last March, age 13.
When I first got my diagnoses, I felt lonely and isolated like I had nobody to talk too, or who understood me for me. My school struggled with how to handle some of my tics and some of my peers would make hurtful comments about my tics. This is where Tourettes Action helped me massively by educating my school who then educated my peers about what TS is and how they could help me!
I then decided with my diagnosis I wanted to help people like me who struggled with TS and show them being neurodiverse is a strength not a weakness! So I signed up for my first ever pageant! With pageantry I gained the confidence I didn’t know I had! It helped me make my platform ‘Let’s talk Tourette’s!’ (aka LTT).
LTT is all about educating and helping other people with TS be the best, most confident version of themselves. I am a finalist for Jr Miss Galaxy UK, and I currently hold the title of Jr Miss Lancashire Galaxy, and I have also recently received a Young Citizen Award by the High Sheriff of Lancashire.
Pageantry has given me the opportunity to educate not just my community but people within pageantry about TS. I would love for other young neurodiverse girls to get involved and feel the power of pageantry.
