Dr Victoria Pile
Position
NIHR Preparatory Clinician Fellow, King’s College London and Clinical Psychologist, Tic and Neurodevelopmental Movement Disorders (TANDeM) services, Evelina Children’s Hospital, London
Where are you doing your research?
King’s College London
What is the topic of your research?
We are interested in understanding the impact of anxiety and low mood on children and young people with Tourette Syndrome and Chronic Tic Disorders (TS/CTDs) and their families. This is important as we know that anxiety is very common in TS/CTDs and that anxiety and low mood can have a big impact on people’s lives. We would like to better understand some of the thinking styles associated with anxiety and low mood in TS/CTDs as this will help us to develop effective treatments.
How will this help people with TS?
By understanding factors associated with anxiety and low mood in TS/CTDs, it will allow us to develop more effective treatments. This will help us to help other children and young people with TS/CTDs and co-morbid anxiety or mood problems.
Why do you want to be a researcher?
I am passionate about trying to better understand anxiety and low mood in the context of TS/CTDs and so to attempt to improve available treatments. As a Clinical Psychologist, it has always been important to me that I offer the best evidence-based treatments to the children and young people I see.
